Cabin 3025 - Accessible OV - Huge roll-in bathroom

Bathroom has excellent accessible features - large enough to handle a wheelchair, no lip at entry (of course), shower with adustable height and also removable to use as hand-held, lever handle on sink that automatically turns off, lots of grab bars, roll-under sink, lowered shelves and towel racks. Toilet seems to be standard height, and there is room around it for a commode chair. Hair dryer and shaver plug are lower than in the other cabin I saw.

This is just to show the entry - no lip at all.

Cabin 3025 - Accessible OV - entry

Here is the entry. Wheelchair fit through door, not easily, but it made it. Closets have frosted glass doors (the other room I saw had solid wood). Not sure how this helps, but it is there.

I think it would be a struggle to open the closet door in a wheelchair, since the entryway is not wide enough to accommodate the width of the closet door and a wheelchair. This wouldn't be a problem if you had an AB person with you to get the clothes in and out of the closet.

Cabin 3025 - Accessible OV - Pull-down bar in closet

Closet bar has a long handle attached that makes it easy to pull down. Only issue is, it would be hard to open the closet door from a wheelchair because the entryway isn't wide enough to accommodate the chair and the door.

This is an area where you would need an AB person with you.

Cabin 3025 - Accessible OV - Main part of room

Main part of room has plenty of room to get a chair in and to the bed. We did have the club chair removed and the table moved to the back wall.

Nice touches include lamps that are touch-activated, lowered temperature controls. Bed is a fine height (this seemed to be true in the regular room, as well).

I realize I forgot to shoot the wall with the TV. At the left of this picture is the cabinet with drawers. It houses the small refrigerator and also a DVD player. Above the cabinet on the wall is a nice flat-screen TV (I'd say 20"). It is on a telescoping bracket, so it can be turned to view from the sofa or from a wheelchair in that area. Very nice.

Headboard has light switch. Also both lamps are touch-activated, three-way lights.

Not related to HC access, but the bed is very comfortable. It had nice linens and a down comforter. Pillows were nice medium firmness down (or down-like) pillows, and we got isotonic foam pillows on request.

Cabin 3025 - Accessible OV

View from porthole window. The accessible cabins are the lowest grade OV, and only have portholes. On the positive side, the internet access was pretty fast, so we must be near the hub or something. Others on the ship reported slow/no wi-fi.

Entry to Ship

Entry at Port of Miami was via "air bridge". Very easy roll onto the ship.

CocoCayBeachChairs.jpg

Coco Cay Beach WheelChairs

As you can see, they had a good supply of beach wheelchairs for our use. Actually, there were another 4 on the other side of the shed. They had someone stationed there to guard our regular wheelchair.

With this chair, we were able to get my DH right to the edge of the water, where he was able to basically "float" in. It was great. They had attendants there who helped him in and out of the water.

Here we are relaxing in the water, with the beach chair in the background. DH had a vest on because he also did some snorkeling, and vests are required of all snorkelers.

I photographed this at request of a CC poster. The restroom area is completely accessible, with wide doors, no change in level, and a large HC stall with a sink in it.

TenderRamp.jpg

Tender Ramp

This is the easy ramp used for access to the tender at Coco Cay. We did need a little boost over the "hump" from the ship to the start of the ramp, but that was easily accomplished. In a power chair, it wouldn't be a problem at all.

Tender Sit

Here is where they had my DH sit - up on the bow - since you have to use steps up and down to get to the seating area. They allowed me to stay there with him.
